-------------------------------------
Greetings everyone, and thanks for showing your overwhelming support for both Grandia and Game Arts. Releasing this game has been a unique and rewarding experience to say the least, but enough of the fluff, let’s get down to business (to defeat the huns?).
We’ve been lurking like crazy here in the Steam forums, in Neogaf, on Twitter, and all over the place. You guys have been really great about sending us helpful feedback. Rather than trying to respond to each and every one, I figured it would be much more efficient to post something like an FAQ.
So here goes:
Widescreen: As some fans have theorized, the FMVs and cutscenes were the most problematic for a widescreen format. On top of that, various elements of the game would have needed to be completely redone. In this case, we were testing the waters with classic Steam ports, but this is something we can consider in our future ports.
60 FPS: Some fans have reported that the original PC port was 60 FPS. This isn't entirely true. The game was actually 30 FPS for everything but the battle scenes -- which were indeed 60 FPS. We've had a lot of fans propose some ideas that could potentially unlock the 30 FPS, and we'll definitely look into it to see if we can ensure this level of performance while maintaining the game's stability.
UI/2D Assets: The 2D elements were left largely untouched from their original Dreamcast counterparts (aside from the character portraits). This is another case where we were assessing the task at hand alongside the value of maintaining the original experience. Once again, something to revisit in future ports.
Xbox Controller Issues: This one is a bit tricky, because some fans are having no trouble at all. It’s been theorized that updating the drivers for your controller/wireless adapter should help fix this, but if you still encounter issues, please contact [email protected] and let them know the exact controller you are using (Xbox 360/Xbox ONE -- wired/wireless) and submit a dxdiag.
Hard Mode: Some fans are concerned that our Hard Mode is just a minor bump in enemy HP. Here is a simple breakdown of the changes:
World Enemies (small adjustments):
- Increase in attack frequency
- Increased HP
- Increased defense (for some)
Boss Monsters:
- Increased frequency of attacks and spells
- Large boost to HP, defense, and (for some) base damage values
- Vulnerabilities to specific attacks has been decreased, but not to the point that they no longer have a “weakness”
Dreamcast Port? Dreamcast SAVES?!: Some fans are convinced that our port was either based on the PS2 or PC version, but as we’ve said before, this is a port based on the Dreamcast code. A fun little side effect of this is that if you have any VMS save files lying around (via means we can’t officially endorse or discuss), they can actually be imported to this game! If you want more info about how to obtain files like this, you may want to discuss among yourselves or check out the Dreamcast homebrew community scene.
To find your Steam save:

In this folder you'll see a list with all your save files. All you need to do is rename your downloaded or personal VMS files to match the format used by the game which looks like:
GRANDIA2_000.VMS
“What about (insert Game Arts title/release on other platforms)?!?”: We admit it was a pretty big tease to our fans when we dangled that survey, but we got some incredible feedback and support for our classic library of games. Rest assured, we will make any and all announcements regarding future titles or availability on other platforms just as soon as we can. If we haven’t posted it already, assume we don’t have official plans set in motion just yet (or we do and aren’t ready to chat about it publicly because reasons!)
Other/Technical Bugs?: Please don’t post them here. It’s way easier for us if you can keep an organized thread like this one: http://steamcommunity.com/app/330390/discussions/0/521643320369988504/
That’s all I’ve got for now, and I can update this post as needed.
Thanks again for your support and happy RPG-ing everyone!
(Of note, Xtreme is the only Grandia I have actually played, and my biggest complaint is that the cutscenes are too long for a dungeon crawler.)

I can tell you I remember seeing 'Dracula X' for PC when I went over there quite a while ago. By Dracula X I mean Akumajo Dracula X, i.e. Symphony Of the Night and not it's predecessor.

Symphony of the Night on PC would be incredible! I haven't played that game in so long. I never did get around to beating the whole game, I only completed the first castle :(

Verse Realm - Caverns |
Your old friends are back. Fight through the Pico Alphas and Aton Betas as you move through this cavern. Make sure you look down every side trail. You'll find a chest holding a Bagoo Nut and the Lake Egg from chests. Just before exiting, look on the left to find the Lightning Egg.
Verse Realm - Glass Forest |
Follow the stone path down to the ground below. Once there, look on the northern side of the clearing for two chests. One holds an Earth Ring while the other has a Fairy Cloak. Walk up the next ramp and continue until the ground looks like a giant tongue. Turn to the east and follow the path to find a chest holding a Revival Elixir. Go back and follow the other path to the lift. Ride it up to the Terrarium.
Terrarium |
Walk forward until an event unfolds. This place you've found is a town, complete with people and shops, but the curse of Xorn has been turning people into glass.
Take a look around town and upgrade your Skills, Magic, and equipment. Next, go to the northeast and enter Hect's House.
Inside Hect's House, go to the back room and then out onto the Terrace to talk with her. After her defeatist speech, go out into the middle of town and enter the plaza to speak with her again.
Once the first cutscene plays, walk to the back and talk to Hect. Once you tell her of your relationship to Raven and Emelious, she runs back into her house and closes the door. Go back and try to speak with her again. Speak to the Butler and he'll tell you Hect doesn't want to speak to you. Choose to stay at the mansion overnight and then guide your party through another conversation. In the morning, your team decides to follow the path that Raven and Emelious took. Leave out of the southeast exit by taking the lift down to the Silver Stream.
Verse Realm - Silver Stream |
The Verseshrooms that you encounter here have a good amount of HP and can cast Quake, so they aren't exactly pushovers. Use your magic, particularly the fire type, to make quick work of them.
When you come to the first clearing, you'll see some glass mushrooms. You can break these with your sword. Make sure you do to find a Curse Remover, and a Warrior's Tonic.
Follow the trail until you see a short bridge. Before crossing it, open the chest on the left to get another Bagoo Nut.

Heal up before crossing the bridge as you're about to face your first Gigas Theta. These guys look tougher than they really are, but you still shouldn't take them lightly. Use Ulf's fire techniques to deal heavy damage and cast area effect spells and techniques to wipe clean his little helpers while still doing damage to him.
Once you've cleared out this, um, clearing, Look behind the little set of plants growing in the middle to find a Cyclone Egg. Smash the glass mushrooms around the edges to find a Frost Egg, Aqua Egg, and Amethyst Ring.
Move on to the next large open area. There are a ton of monsters here, so be ready for a long series of battles. When you finish, open up the two chests to find a Sorcerer's Book and a Manana Fruit. Smashing the glass mushrooms will net you a Wind Egg, a Curse Remover and a 2 Healing Fruits.
Before you leave to the north, check out the side trail leading south. At the end, you'll find a chest with a Volcano Egg.

Verse Realm - Doomed Garden |
Use the Light Sphere to save your game and then walk up the steps into Femuto's House. Talk to Femuto to learn about Surmania. After he says that he'll open the gate for you to see, talk to him again and he'll give you the history of Surmania Zero. Go outside and exit to through the northwestern gate.
Surmania Zero - City Ruins |
Walk forward down the path until a cutscene plays. When it's done, keep walking down the path until you get to Hect. After learning what Raven and Emelious did here, head back to Terrarium.

Terrarium |
Go to Hect's House and talk to the Butler. After staying the night, go out onto the terrace to see Hect. Now that she is significantly cheered up, save your game and recover your HP and MP. Buy any items that you couldn't previously afford and then exit through the southwestern gate.
Verse Realm - Silver Spring |
Large groups of Aton Deltas will swarm you here and they love to paralyze your team. If you have anything that can negate that effect, equipping it before you begin this section will help.
When you come to the first open area, fight the Gigas and then open the chests. You'll find a Cure Powder and an Icicle Egg.
If you look around behind the end of the northern loop in this region, you can find a chest with Fairy Pumps. Pick up the Power Seed near the Light Sphere and save your game before moving on.
Eternal Corridor - Giant Cavern |
Grandia Family
Start following the path and stick to the right. You'll quickly come to a chest holding a Thunder Egg.
Continuing along, you'll find another chest. In order to get it though, you'll have to fight the extremely powerful Excise Psi. This guy has over 12000 HP and packs quite a punch with his Pluto Killer, Ogre Claws, Zap! and Dark Mist attacks. To make matters worse, he is extremely fast and will get multiple turns in before you do. Luckily, he is weak to flame attacks. Make full use of Ulf's techniques and blast him with every fire spell you have to take him down. When you do, open the chest to get the Buster Flail.
Further down the path you'll have to ride a stone down to the lower level in order to keep moving. Follow the trail all the way around to the Light Sphere while looking to your left for chests with A Big One and Curse Remover. Use it to recover your vitals and save and then look on the opposite side of the nearby rock pillar. There, you'll find a chest with another copy of the Warrior Book.
As you walk towards the exit, look for a path leading off to the west. This leads to a chest holding a Heal Egg, but you'll have to go through another Excise Psi and this one has a host of lesser demons helping him out. Make sure you're at 100% before this battle and have all of your fire spells handy.
Once you've had your fill of fighting these guys, make your way to the northern exit.
Eternal Corridor - Heart |
Boss Fight: Mother Breed |
This battle is even easier than what you've been up against in the preceding caves. The Mother Breed will rarely attack you. Instead, it will simply generate more enemies to send at you. As long as you don't let them overwhelm you, this fight is a piece of cake.
Use an area effect spell regularly to wipe clean the map. We did this by casting Quake with Dahna. For every other player, we just continuously attacked with fire based spells and techniques on the Mother Breed. Feel free to take some time off from attacking the big boss if you find several strong enemies on the field at once and focus primarily on them.
When the battle ends, grab the Paladin Book off of the floor and jump into the Verse Sphere.
